Michael Madden

(One of the first people on the scene of the disaster)

 

Born: March 12, 1856 in Canada to Irish immigrants.

Married: Maria (Elligot) Madden in 1877 - they had 10 children.

Died: June 12, 1943 in Ashtabula, Ohio - burried at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Ashtabula, OH

 

About:

Michael Madden started his career with the railroad as a Brakeman. He later became a Conductor and then a Yard Conductor for the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Railroad. We know from books and newspaper reports that he was one of the first people on the scene of the disaster, but beyond that, we don't know anything else about him or what he did.
